South Sudan

South Sudan is a landlocked country in East / Central Africa. It is bordered to the east by Ethiopia, to the north by Sudan, to the west by the Central African Republic, to the southwest by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to south by Uganda and to the south by Kenya. It has a population of 11.06 million, of which 525,953 are in the capital and largest city Juba.

It gained independence from the Republic of the Sudan in 2011, making it the current state or nation recognized throughout 2021. It includes the vast swamp region of Sudd, formed by White Nile and known locally as Bahr al. Jabal means "Mountain". Sudan lived in Egypt under the Muhammad Ali dynasty and was administered as an Anglo-Egyptian condominium until Sudanese independence in 1956. The South Sudanese population is predominantly Nilotic, and it is the population of the youngest ethnic group in the world, with approximately half the age group under 18 years of age. The vast majority of people belong to Christianity or various indigenous religions. The country is a member of the United Nations, the African Union, the East African Community the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and a party to the Geneva Conventions. As of 2019, South Sudan ranks third-lowest in the UN World Happiness Report, third-lowest in the World Peace Index, and has the fourth-highest score on the American Fund for Peace's Fragile States Index.
